 The always in form Freak n’ Chic continue their early-2009 bombardment with a superb EP from newcomer Djebali. Dropping just in time for Miami, the “Lax EP” looks set to be another winner for the Paris-based imprint as it oozes quality across all four of its, percussive house tracks. Starting with the urgent, Chicago vibes of “Don’t Be Forced”, the “Lax EP” features tracks for every point in a set. While the aforementioned cut is peak-time, the sinister ‘California’ is pure afterhours with its spooky synths and heavy funk bass drops. “Son of Sun” rounds off the vinyl package brilliantly by delivering some old-school sample based house to proceedings while digital exclusive “Calling” seems to combine the vibes of all of the vinyl cuts to create a really diverse sounding and fresh groover. A graduate of Paris prestigious SAE Audio Engineering School, Djebali has been a lifelong follower of house music and has quite aptly been influenced by FNC label boss Dan Ghenacia as well as drawing cues from Luciano, Samim and Locodice.
This, the first of many to come for Freak n’ Chic follows his recent release for Jay Haze’s Tuning Spork and shows why there’s a lot of hype to come for this talent.
